You're going to love our 2014 calendar. The cover itself is a treat Cindy Huyser's breathtaking photograph of San Antonio's Mission San Jose, with Kristee Humphrey's crisp, clean graphic design.
Inside you will discover 98 poems as diverse and original as the state itself. Texas Poet Laureate Rosemary Catacalos opens the calendar with a poem on the inside front cover. As you turn the pages, you'll see names that have appeared in our calendar before, keeping company with poets who are published here for the first time. You'll find young poets, established poets, and award-winning poets. You'll find poems that invite multiple readings.
Enjoy.

This is my second annual Texas Poetry Calendar and it really captures what makes Texas unique. I'm debating whether just a few photos would enhance its impact...or maybe it's just better to let the poems create their own visuals in the reader's mind. Anyway, I love the calendar as it is.Product details

Texas Poetry Calendar 2014 David Meischen Scott Wiggerman Cindy Huyser Laurie Ann Guerrero Editors Laurie Ann Guerrero 9780984039944 Books Reviews
I don’t imagine that for non-Texans the stereotype of Texas is “a land of masterful poets.” Yet the 2014 Texas Poetry Calendar certainly proves this is so and that Texas is a wonderful muse---inspiring many different poets and many different kinds of poems. From sonnets to haiku to prose poems, from quatrains to aubades, these poems, organized by season in an anthology-as-engagement calendar, not only span the seasons but the breadth and depth of human experience.
Among my favorites are those that offer epiphanies from the natural world (Jeffrey DeLotto’s “Cardinals” and Michael Harty’s “Cactus Flat”) and epiphanies from the urban world (Christine Boldt’s remarkable “At the Waco Wendy’s” and Polly Monear’s “330 P.M. at the Corner of Chicon and MLK”, inspired by a scrap of paper from a high school student’s backpack). Notable as well is the sad, haunting lyricism of Hugo E. Rodriguez C.’s “Codigo 52-U.S. Highway 77.”
But there is a good deal of fun here as well---Tria Wood’s lovingly humorous ode to a retired couple in “Aubade,” the unfettered imagination of Stan Crawford’s “Dog Days,” Tony Burnett’s celebration of his animal companions in the early morning in “Before 7 A.M.”
In “Seadrift,” Marcelle Kasprowicz remarks that “…we have forgotten how to live.” But her poem and every poem in this volume reminds us how to live, offers an antidote for our forgetting.
Many thanks as well to Editors David Meischen, Scott Wiggerman, Cindy Huyser, and Laurie Ann Guerrero for beautifully organizing the poems so that the reader has a clear sense of how poems speak to each other across the seasons and through the years.
I have just finished reading the volume, and will have the joy of reading each poem again in the coming year as I use the calendar to organize my daily tasks and weekly deadlines.
Highly recommended.
